OUR HISTORY

The St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation, founded in 1992, is a non-profit organization which promotes the humane treatment of animals.

With a wonderful team of volunteers and the invaluable support of local veterinarians, we are constantly developing new ways to address and fund animal welfare on our island.

Humane education is our #1 priority.

Since our founding in 1992, the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation has provided the Kind News to every primary school student on the Dutch side of St. Maarten.

Kind News teaches respect for animals and the earth, and encourages children to understand wards the responsibility of pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals.

Sterilization is our #2 Priority. Our philosophy is that it is better to prevent reproduction of unwanted animals than to euthanize the unwanted offspring.

The St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation encourages the sterilization of animals and since 1997, we have sponsored more than 14,000 sterilizations on Dutch St. Maarten. All animals in our adoption program must be sterilized.

In 2018, the Team Goldendog Foundation, which was founded in 2004, joined with the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation, to create an even more robust animal welfare organization that can now offer tax-exempt donations to US residents and direct online contributions using the security of PayPal. Team Goldendog Inc. serves as the US 501(3)c not for profit charitable arm of the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation.
